INGLÉS: Muchas maneras de telefonear a alguien

Como seguramente sabréis, “telefonear a alguien” en inglés se dice normalmente TELEPHONE SOMEONE o PHONE SOMEONE. Pero sabed que algo tan habitual como llamar por teléfono tiene muchas otras maneras de decirse.

Mike telephoned me to say he was going to be late. 
Mike me llamó para decirme que iba a llegar tarde.

Phone me if you have any questions. 
Llámame si tienes cualquier pregunta.

- PHONE SOMEONE UP 

I don’t know when he’s coming. I will phone him up and ask him. 
No sé a qué hora va a venir. Le llamaré para preguntarselo.

- MAKE A CALL TO + lugar 

I want to make a call to France, please. 
Me gustaría pasar una llamada a Francia, por favor.

- CALL SOMEONE 

I will call Susan later. 
Llamaré a Susan más tarde.

- GIVE SOMEONE A CALL

Give me a call when you get back from your trip. 
Llámame cuando vuelvas del viaje.

- CALL SOMEONE UP, una expresión muy americana.

Call Mary up and ask what she’s doing tonight. 
Llama a Mary y pregúntale lo que hace esta noche.

- RING SOMEONE, muy británica.

Ring me when you arrive, will you? 
Llámame, por favor, cuando llegues.

- RING SOMEONE UP, puramente británica.

Mrs Jones rang up yesterday to make an appointment. 
La Sra Jones llamó ayer para pedir cita.

- GIVE SOMEONE A RING, también muy británica.

I’ll give you a ring before I go to bed. 
Te llamaré antes de acostarme.

- GIVE SOMEONE A BUZZ, usada en un registro informal.

Sorry, I need to go now, but give me a buzz later, will you? 
Perdona, me tengo que ir ahora, pero dame un toque más tarde, ¿vale?
